maidonians 1 - 2 loxwood
loxwood ground out another important victory as they showed their strength in depth to see off struggling maidonians. despite being without five key players from their previous week's success, rangers still scraped home by the odd goal in three after overcoming determined opponents and a bog of a pitch. but it took some time to break down the home team whose goalkeeper was in sensational form to keep them in the contest. in the first half loxwood were denied at least four times with riccardo riccio and dave ord unable to find a way past and when jason harris broke through and tried to chip the keeper, he saw his effort sail over the bar. the second half saw more pressure from loxwood but again the home keeper made a full length save from a harris free kick and then blocked the follow up. but when christian buckley's bullet header from a harris cross was brilliantly pushed onto the bar by the in-form goal minder, riccio was on hand to stab home from two yards. having had such a great game it was ironic that the maidonians keeper gifted loxwood their second goal five minutes from time when he allowed a tame shot from riccio to roll through his legs, leaving sub jonno morshead with a simple tap-in. but this goal proved crucial as rangers then gifted maidonians a goal of their own when pete phillips got caught in possession and they fired home under matty mank. but it was too little too late for maidonians as loxwood held out for a win which lifted them up into third place in the table. team talk 1 matty manktelow - made several important saves including a crucial one on one early on but was lucky to stay on after abusing the ref..8 2 dom mcadden - put himself about before finally running out of steam..6 3 liam cattigan - voted man of the match after a powerful display down the left side..9 4 pete phillips - solid showing but gifted maidonians a late reply..7 5 christian buckley - outstanding display of defending and played a crucial part in the first goal..8 6 duncan greenwood - took a whole half to find his feet (or simply stay on his feet) and was fortunate not to get cautioned after kicking lumps out of their striker..7 7 mikey roberts - looked to be carrying a knock but gave another wholehearted display..7 8 mark broomfield - got through a lot of work but struggled to pass the ball on a difficult surface..7 9 dave ord - got frustrated as several chances came and went but held the ball up well...8 10 riccardo riccio - always a threat but doesn't always have to shoot on sight..8 11 jason harris - unlucky not to get on the scoresheet and was involved in most of his side's best moves..8 subs 12 ryland wilson (mcadden 75) - used the ball well when he came on and linked up well with strikers..8 14 jonno morshead (broomfield 80) - put himself about and once again got on the scoresheet..7 15 jack gill (not used).
loxwood 5 - 0 reading gas
loxwood chalked up their first double of the season as they cruised to victory over reading gas. having already beaten the same opponents 4-1 earlier in the season, rangers made it a win double as dave ord and riccardo riccio found their form in front of goal. yet it was wing-back chris thorpe who got loxwood off to a flying start when he climbed above his marker at the back post to head home in spectacular fashion after just five minutes. new signing from scotland david ord made it 2-0 when he latched onto a through ball before firing home and when thorpe was pulled back in the box, riccardo riccio stepped up to score from the spot and make it 3-0 at half-time. ord then effectively killed the game off right at the start of the second half when he pounced on a defensive mistake to make it 4-0 and riccio added the fifth with a great turn and finish to complete a comprehensive victory. team talk 1 matty manktelow - not much to do again but his handling was good as was his kicking..8 2 tim foster - not his best display although i think he was winding down for his three week break..6 3 chris thorpe - great goal and always caused problems breaking down the left..8 4 matt poll - kept things organised and was vocal throughout..8 5 christian buckley - very solid and kept his concentration throughout..8 6 pete phillips - had a much easier ride than he did last time against the gasmen as their big striker only came on for the second half..8 7 mikey roberts - put himself about and nearly scored the goal of the game with a close range header..7 8 adam bowden - went close with a free kick but has still to open his account for loxwood..7 9 dave ord - led the line brilliantly and scored his first two goals for the club in a mom display...9 10 riccardo riccio - two cool finishes but missed his chance for a hat-trick so that he didn't have to buy the beers afterwards..8 11 jason harris - always in control in midfield as rangers dominated their opponents..7 subs 12 dom mcadden (foster 65) - put himself about and showed some good touches..7 14 liam cattigan (thorpe 75) - slotted in well and looked good on the ball..7 15 jonny austin (riccio 75) - low on confidence but still could have got on the scoresheet with a bit more belief..7.
woodlands 2 - 1 loxwood
loxwood turned in their must lacklustre display of the season as they lost out to strugglers woodlands in a dour scrap at sol joel. things started to go wrong even before the kick-off when striker riccardo riccio pulled out through illness and with several other players not turning up, there were a number of late changes to the original squad of players. these poor preparations didn't help rangers cause yet their didn't help themselves with a poor first half display which saw them continually give the ball away cheaply. debutant dave ord weighed in with a solid showing up front but rangers struggled to open up the well drilled home defence. and then out of the blue they went behind when a cross from the right was put into his own net by pete phillips under pressure from a woodlands striker. some negative vibes which had started to creep in during the first half were even more evident after the break as loxwood continued to fire blanks up front and they then shot themselves in the foot when a miss placed pass on the half way line was pounced upon by woodlands who broke clear two on one to make it 2-0. throwing caution to the wind, loxwood pegged one back when christian buckley headed home a jason harris corner and in the last 10 minutes the visitors created enough chances to have at least claimed a point. but harris shot poorly from close range and timmy foster failed to make contact with a cross from the right and woodlands held on for the points. team talk 1 matty manktelow - had little to do apart from pick the ball out of the net twice..7 2 tim foster - should have equalised near the end and struggled to make much of an impact..6 3 dave clyde - came off injured after a below par display..5 4 matt poll - taken off in a tactical change which totally back fired..7 5 christian buckley - much improved display and took his goal well..8 6 pete phillips - unfortunate with the own goal and was given some unwarranted stick from the sidelines..6 7 mikey roberts - this was one of mikey's poorest games for the club. he just couldn't get going..5 8 adam bowden - showed some great touches without managing to open up the defence..8 9 jonny austin - struggled to get into the game as he was well shackled by their defenders...5 10 dave ord - worked hard in an unaccustomed position but never gave up battling..8 11 jason harris - negative vibes from the sidelines and tactical changes had an adverse affect on his display..6 subs 12 chris thorpe - gifted woodlands their second goal but gave an extra thrust going forward..6 14 mark broomfield - unable to make much of an impact..6 15 adam turner (not used).
loxwood 3 - 4 reading pirahnas
loxwood 3 - 4 reading pirahnas an amazing second half fight-back by loxwood came to nothing as they lost out to a last minute penalty against piranhas. despite going 3-0 down after just 20 disastrous minutes, rangers showed great courage to get back on level terms before creating enough chances to have won convincingly. however, they paid the penalty quite literally in the dieing seconds as skipper christian buckley handled in the area and piranhas gleefully accepted the gift by scoring from the spot. it was a cruel blow to loxwood who at least deserved a point but they made life hard for themselves early on after a very poor start to the game. a mistake by matty mank allowed piranhas to take a 10th minute lead and that soon became 3-0 as poor defending allowed two simple tap ins. but rangers finally started to fire as the first half came to a close and brian colman gave his side a lifeline when he bundled the ball home from a corner. the introduction of teenage striker riccardo riccio during the interval proved a masterstroke as the 16-year-old ran rings round the piranhas defence. he and jonny austin combined to set up colman for his second in the 50th minute and five minutes later, riccio equalised with a header from an adam bowden corner. at this stage loxwood were in complete control and they should have put the game out of reach as jonny austin and dave clyde both missed great chances. riccio saw one effort bounce just wide of the post while the visiting keeper made a brilliant save to deny him soon after. however, loxwood's failure to clear the ball properly in the very last minute lead to the penalty which left rangers with nothing to show for a superb second half fight-back. team talk 1 matty mank - his mistake led to the first goal but could do little about the others....6 2 tim foster - great to see tim back in action and he slotted in superbly at wing-back....8 3 dave clyde - gave us extra power down the left on his return from injury.....7 4 matt poll - another impressive display after a sloppy start....7 5 christian buckley - unfortunate to give away a last minute penalty although he's yet to find his best form.....7 6 mikey roberts - if only he could pass the ball as well as he wins it.......6 7 brian colman - took his goals well but needs to release the ball earlier.....7 8 adam bowden - unlocked the opposition defence several times after the break and is growing in confidence.....7 9 jason harris - poor first half showing as he saw little of the ball....6 10 jonny austin - showed some good touches but once again missed a sitter.....6 11 duncan greenwood - did a great job in the holding role and really put himself about.....7 subs 12 riccardo riccio (harris 45) - changed the game with a superb display....9 14 liam cattigan (clyde 70) - put himself about and added some extra energy when we needed it most......7 15 dom mcadden (foster 80) - slotted in well and showed some good touches on the ball......7
thames cons 4 - 2 loxwood
thames cons' superior striking power shone through as they took their chances to emerge with a deserved victory. but loxwood can look back on some defensive blunders which helped cause no end in what was always a close and competitive clash. rangers made the perfect start when man of the match mikey roberts forced the ball in from close range. but loxwood were then caught out defensively as dangermen richard holland and paul eaton scored in quick succession to give tc a 2-1 interval lead. after the break, the home home side continued to look the more threatening going forward although it took a classic own goal by tim foster to give them a two goal cushion as his attempted clearance ended up in the top corner of the net. harris - bullet loxwood's hopes were briefly raised when a miss timed clearance by thames cons fell to jason harris who closed his eyes and hoped for the best and found the net with a bullet header. but eaton was on hand to pounce on a misjudgment by skipper buckley and despite a flourish near the end, loxwood were unable to respond. team talk 1 matty manktelow - was kept on his toes by their lively strikers but could do nothing with any of the goals. his goal kicks were too good..7 2 tim foster - was unable to produce is usual service from the right flank but did score a classic og..6 3 dave clyde - again gave us little thrust going forward although he defended well..6 4 matt poll - was caught out of position a couple of times and seemed to spend a lot of time on his ass..6 5 christian buckley - not one of his best games although he kept battling right to the end..6 6 pete phillips - found it tough going against a very talented front man who was in fine form..6 7 mikey roberts - scored a goal and got a clean sweep of votes for the mom ward. keep it going mikey!..9 8 mark broomfield - struggled to get into the game and eventually came off through injury..5 9 jonny austin - made very little impact although he never gave up..6 10 riccardo riccio - had a quiet game by his high standards..6 11 jason harris - took his goal well and was involved in most of loxwood's better moves..6 subs 12 adam bowden - gave us an extra dimension when he came on and used the ball well..8 14 liam cattigan - worked hard down the right and gave us a new lease of life..7 15 chris thorpe - put himself about but was unable to turn the game..7
loxwood 4 - 0 bulmershe ob
loxwood piled more misery on basement boys bulmershe as they cruised to a 4-0 victory to maintain their climb away from the lower reaches of division one east. and although the final scoreline could have been a lot more convincing, rangers did what they had to do and were never in any real danger. dave clyde - screamer (goal that is ;-)) yet it took them a while to find their scoring boots, well it took jonny austin a while anyway as he missed three guilt edged opportunities before finally making it 1-0 with a close range finish after half an hour. loxwood continued to dictate proceedings after half-time and they doubled their lead in spectacular fashion when dave clyde let fly into the top corner from 25 yards. this strike proved crucial as bulmershe visibly started to wilt after that and they could only stand and watch as substitute richard witt danced past five of them before bamboozling the keeper to make it 3-0 on the hour. further chances came and went before austin bagged his second from close range after good work by witt and riccardo riccio. team talk 1 matty manktelow - hardly had a shot to save but set up some great chances with his long kicks..7 2 liam cattigan - solid showing from liam who worked hard up and down the right flank..7 3 dave clyde - scored a screamer and was always in control down the left..7 4 timmy foster - slotted in well as sweeper in the absence of poley and was close to getting the man of the match vote (even though he kept passing to the opposition)..7 5 christian buckley - won all his headers and kept his concentration for the full 90 minutes..7 6 pete phillips - kept things simple and was a solid partner for buckers..7 7 mikey roberts - a real powerhouse in the midfield..8 8 mark broomfield - impressive debut before coming off injured early in the second half..8 9 jonny austin - missed some sitters but still did enough to earn the man of the match award..9 10 riccardo riccio - ran jonny close for mom with another skillful display..8 11 jason harris - tried to keep things simple but found passing tough on the bog of a pitch..7 subs 12 richard witt - oozed class when he came on..8 14 ryland wilson - slotted in well down the right and played some good football..8 15 kevin weeding - almost scored with a far post header..7 16 nathan harvey - (not used).
reading gas 1 - 4 loxwood
teenage marksman riccardo riccio struck twice as loxwood finally found their form to chalk up only their second win of the season last sunday. teenage marksman riccardo riccio struck twice as loxwood finally found their form to chalk up only their second win of the season last sunday. but the youngster wasn't the only star as rangers weighed in with a solid all round showing to emerge with a comfortable victory against the former league leaders. spurred on by man of the match matt "poley" poll, loxwood looked hungry for the points right from the first whistle and took a deserved 10th minute lead when timmy foz weaved his magic down the right before crossing for brian colman to score with a diving header. gas hit back when a fine cross was headed home from close range but rangers were determined to keep things tight and as they fought for every loose ball they regained the lead when jason harris and colman combined to set up riccio who somehow managed to curl the ball home from an almost impossible angle. with the bit between their teeth, rangers soaked up some pressure at the start of the second half before making it 3-1 when a block tackle by colman sent riccio away and he fired into the far corner. and with the loxwood defence continuing to keep gas's two dangerous strikers at bay, skipper christian buckley put the issue beyond doubt with a looping late header following an adam bowden set piece. the only downside to this win was an injury picked up by veteran colman who joins, nick pope, chris thorpe and richard witt in the treatment room but with two new signings having been made in the past week, loxwood will be aiming to continue their improved form as they look to climb the table. team talk 1 matty mank - had no chance with their goal and made a couple of vital stops. was loud and assertive and came out well....8 2 tim foster - did brilliantly to set up the first goal and was always a threat down the right flank....8 3 dave clyde - got up and down well and nothing got past him during the whole 90 minutes.....8 4 matt poll - deservedly voted man of the match after a near faultless display at the back....9 5 christian buckley - was kept on his toes by their dangerous striker, scored a great goal .....8 6 pete phillips - had a right old battle with their striker but came out on top after a determined display.......8 7 mike roberts - gave us loads of energy in the midfield with his non-stop effort.....8 8 adam bowden - classy display and set up the killer goal late on.....8 9 brian colman - led the line well before coming off with a knee injury....8 10 riccardo riccio - two brilliantly taken goals and was a constant threat with his pace and skill.....8 11 jason harris - with poley running the show, jase was able to concentrate on his own game and enjoyed his best display so far.....8 12 jonny austin (colman 65) - worked hard and tracked back well to make sure we stayed in control....8 14 adam turner (foster 87) - thanks for coming!!!......8 15 jack gill (harris 87) - thanks for coming!!!......8
reading irish res 5 - 4 loxwood
loxwood's defensive frailties were once again exposed as they crashed out of the county cup to division two opposition. despite taking the lead after only 30 seconds, loxwood were unable to build on this flying start as they fell 2-1 behind at the break. and as fast as they got back on terms they shipped silly goals at the back to concede five for the second time this season. rangers have yet to field the same side for two successive games and with key players still out injured the going has been tough so far. yet even with a depleted squad, rangers should still have had enough to see off irish. and the stage was set for a moral boosting when when brian colman headed home a quickly taken free kick in the very first minute. but irish then hit back with two long range strikes to lead at the half way stage even though loxwood had looked in complete control. christian buckley then brought his side level with a header from a corner but within minutes slackness at the back allowed irish to make it 3-2. jonny austin then equalised with his first goal of the season as he turned superbly on the edge of the box before firing home. but once again the home side hit back to make it 4-3 and a fifth put the issue beyond doubt, despite colman's second strike of the game in the final minute. team talk 1 matty mank - was at fault with the second goal and still needs to come off his line more often to take pressure off the defence....6 2 ryland wilson - gave everything he had but found it tough going....6 3 liam cattigan - could not be faulted for effort but made very little impression going forward.....6 4 ed west - made good use of the ball but was too quiet....6 5 christian buckley - great goal but needs to be more positive.....6 6 mikey roberts - another wholehearted effort but gave the ball away too cheaply.......6 7 brian colman - two well taken goals but maybe pushed on too much leaving the midfield a tad exposed.....7 8 frank asare - started strongly but tended to wander a bit too much.....6 9 jason harris - weighed in with two assists but faded out of the game in the second half....6 10 jonny austin - led the line superbly and capped a great game with a well taken goal.....8 11 pete phillips - played a major role in the first half but found himself all too often exposed after the break.....7 12 riccardo riccio (asare 60) - put himself about and set up the fourth goal....7 14 nathan harvey (wilson 60) - posed more of a threat going forward......6 15 kev weeding (harris 85) - had little chance to have an influence......6
ruscome 3 - 0 loxwood
loxwood suffered another defeat to rivals rucombe but emerged with a lot of credit after rearranging their formation. with injuries to key players still causing problems, the decision was made to reshuffle the pack and the move worked for the first hour as loxwood easily contained their dangerous opponents. however, one lapse at the back allowed rusombe to edge ahead and as loxwood pushed on in search of an equaliser they were caught twice on the break to finish well beaten. yet there were lots of postives to take from the game with matt poll outstanding in his new sweeper role, brian colman impressing in the midfield and jason harris having more of an influence on proceedings in a new role further forward. mom: matt poll in a tense first half, chances were few and far between but rangers came within a whisker of taking the lead just before the break when colman opened up the ruscombe defence only to see his shot pushed wide by the advancing keeper. after the interval, ruscombe started to dictate more and they eventually broke the deadlock in the 65th minute. in a bid to salvage something, jonny austin replaced the tiring harris but it was ruscombe who added a second and after pushing three up front, the home team added a third in the dieing minutes after breaking clear. team talk 1 matty mank - made a couple of important saves but again was glued to his line all too often....7 2 chris thorpe - only lasted 20 minutes before coming off injured....5 3 liam cattigan - worked his socks off against an opponent twice his size before coming off with cramp.....7 4 matt poll - superb display by poley who really got stuck in and was left battered and bruised....9 5 christian buckley - did well against their dangerous striker and enjoyed his spell at left back.....7 6 mikey roberts - shadowed their striker well and is turning into a solid centre half.......7 7 brian colman - always posed a threat running from deep and was so close to giving us the lead.....7 8 adam bowden - much improved display by bowds who dicated for long spells.....7 9 jason harris - took a while to get used to his new role but did okay....7 10 riccardo riccio - ran his socks off but didn't get the service he was after.....6 11 pete phillips - worked hard and got stuck into them and almost passed the ball to me once!.....7 subs: 12 ryland wilson (thorpe 20) - started well before fading in the second half....6 14 jonny austin (harris 65) - almost created a goal on his onw with a great turn in the box......6 15 duncan greenwood (cattigan 80) - put himself about but had little time to exert his influence on the game......6
loxwood 4 - 1 trentonians
sixteen year old striker ricardo riccio made an immediate impact on his first team debut as he bagged two goals and scooped the man of the match award in loxwood's opening day success story. in a solid team performance, youngster riccio stood out as the star performer with his pace and skill leaving a depleted trentonians side chasing shadows. yet it was riccio's strike partner jonny austin who created havoc early on and only a series of fine saves by stand-in keeper graham corker kept loxwood at bay. however, trents showed their worth as they took advantage of the one defensive mistake by loxwood in the game to take a 15th minute lead. with austin, riccio and midfielder adam bowden all being denied by some stunning saves, loxwood went into the interval a goal down and the omens did not look good as dave clyde came off with a calf strain. goalscorer: morshead however, loxwood stepped up the pace after the break and deservedly equalised when riccio raced onto a jason harris through ball to round the keeper and slam home. a classic own goal made it 2-1 to rangers and then riccio latched onto nathan harvey's lob forward to add the third. obviously concerned that he would have to buy two jugs of beer back at the poachers after the game if he scored a hat-trick, riccio handed over the scoring duties to substitute jonno morshead who blasted home from the edge of the box, and with rangers keeper matty manktelow a spectator, loxwood cruised to victory. team talk 1 matt mank - had little to do except claim a few crosses and pick the ball out of the net once.....8 2 ed west - struggled with two pairs of socks on, but once he took a pair off he improved (weird sod)....7 3 dave clyde - made some promising breaks forward before coming off with a calf injury. he spends more time in the treatment room than on then pitch.....7 4 jason harris - with kev and buckers in commanding form jase had little to do at the back....7 5 christian buckley - apart from one lapse in concentration a rock solid display.....7 6 chris thorpe - was lucky to stay on the park for a viscious head but (well more like handbags at 10 paces).......7 7 kev weeding - impressive debut for the club. solid and good on the ball.....8 8 adam bowden - showed some great touches and his vision will unlock many a defence this season. played in borrowed boots as his were nicked.....7 9 jonny austin - unlucky not to get on the scoresheet, but i'm sure the goals will come....7 10 ricardo riccio - mom display from the livewire frontman who stood out as a class act.....9 11 pete phillips - hardly lost a header all day and won the midfield battle.....7 12 nathan harvey (clyde 25) - set up the third goal and slotted in well on the left. 14 jonno morshead - took his goal superbly just seconds after scuffing one horribly wide (bad bounce i'm told)......7 15 mikey roberts - sent trents flying all over the place with his no nonsense approach.....8
